Lingerie on the Bay, more often referred to as, LOTB, is a ladies only fishing tournament that was started in 1993. At the time, our Chapter President was Ren Davis.  The tournament came about because the board members at the time were fishing as much as they could, plus hosting and competing in several tournaments a year and one night while their wives and girlfriends were together, they decided it was about time for a tournament of their own!

And we are so glad they did!

 

The board members, having no objections to more fishing, got together one night and started brainstorming, eventually they decided on a ladies only fishing tournament. Then from what George Guest tells us, Harper called out, "we can call it Lingerie on the Bay". And just like that LOTB was born!

The first tournament was held at Allen's Landing, which was destroyed by hurricane Claudette. Since then, it has moved, grown, and changed format, but the tournament still lives on. In fact, to this day we still have many of the original members helping run the tournament. Although, we think they are there more to keep us in line and talk to all the ladies. They love to work this event and we love them for it.

We are grateful that they decided to start this event all those years ago.

 A little bit about the fishing. We currently hold the event at the harbor in Matagorda and every year we have close to 300 ladies’ fish, having paid out thousands in prize money over the past 30 plus years. This tournament has gone through many changes over the years starting with an individual’s tournament with Trout, Redfish and Flounder and moving to team events based on weight, length, then going to stringers, and back again. It is all based on the feed back we get as well as the fishing conditions because conservation is still on the top of our priority list. However, a few things will never change: we fish Matagorda and ONLY LADIES can fish the tournament. This event was started strictly for the ladies and will remain that way until the end!
